Táin Festival 2010 a success PDF Print E-mail

Táin Festival 2010 a success

Dundalk’s Táin Festival 2010 has been hailed as a great success. With 50 events in over 20 venues, there was something for everyone at the Festival which had been revived after an absence of three years.

The Festival concluded on Sunday night with a closing ceremony where Chinese Lanterns were launched from The Spirit Store and made their way over Dundalk’s rooftops.

Dundalk Town Centre Commercial Manager Andrew Mawhinney this week paid tribute to all those who joined in the organisation of the 10 day festival.

“This year’s Festival was better than anybody had anticipated. When a committee first came together earlier this year, we didn’t realise we would end up with so many events over 10 days.

“Without sponsors the Táin Festival could not have happened so I have to thank all our sponsors - Dundalk Town Council, Dundalk TCCM, Create Louth, Long Walk Shopping Centre, The Spirit Store, Nor East Beers and Cooley Distillery.

“We also have to thank the many people who came along to the various events, Jason Byrne, Jerry Fish, Adventures of the Wet Senor, talks by Dáithí O hÓgáin, and of course the Mad Hatters Hallowe’en Tea Party in aid of Crosscause.”.

Táin Festival Committee member, Derek Turner of the Spirit Store said he was happy to see the public respond so well to the Festival.

Tickets sold steadily throughout the Táin Festival and given the economic times that are in it, the support for this year’s Táin Festival has been excellent.”

Susan Heraghty of Number Thirty Two restaurant, who is also a member of the Táin Festival Organising Committee, said it was a fantastic project to be involved in.

“The Táin Festival was a tremendous opportunity for the business community of Dundalk to become involved in an arts event which had something to suit everyone. It also gave Festival goers the opportunity to enjoy the hospitality Dundalk has to offer along with local, national and internationally renowned shows.

Fresh from a 14th sell out year at the Edinburgh festival Jason Byrne takes his fringe show ‘Jason Byrne 2010’ to all his favourite Irish venues. Jason Byrne is probably the most exciting live stand up performer in the world today.  I know, sounds like some overstated press drivel but as anyone who has seen him live will testify, it isn’t. Jason is also the biggest selling comedian at the Edinburgh Fringe festival ... ever! Now that just sounds like a lie ... but it isn’t.
Such is Jason’s popularity in Australia that next year he may have to spend at least 3 months there, I only tell you this because this tour may be your only chance to see him in Ireland for quite some time.
